panik deluxe's debut album "without hope I am nothing" goes through all the stages of grief in its course, with a slight emphasis on anger in the middle. The loss of a general basic optimism is mourned, let's call it hope for the sake of simplicity. However, „without hope I am nothing“ may not be a pessimistic album, as these phases ultimately lead to acceptance. But when Panik Deluxe is sad, it's really sad and when she is angry, she is just as unreserved. Between »no sad song sad enough for all these tears I want to cry« (this is not my sea) and »tonight I'll bark and bite you« (god complex), you won't find many compromising moments on this album. But the relief comes, when she sings »nothing can make me cry / It's alright, it's alright, it's alright / It'll pass, it'll pass, it'll pass«, even if we no longer know whether it is meant serious or bitterly ironic.
The dreary Irish weather also had a major influence on the music and lyrics, as they were largely written in Ireland and inspired by eccentric encounters on Irish beaches, loneliness, sorrow, winter and the sea. They were recorded and produced in Dublin/Vienna by the self-taught Artist, whose music reflects this inner turmoil. The 12 tracks move between banging electro and pale goth, crashing industrial but interspersed with pop moments throughout, as if their backing band were a mixture of Cabaret Voltaire and TV on the Radio. Her live shows range from solo performances á la Billie Nomates to Live-Dj Sets to full band arrangements, which she has presented in Austria, Germany and Italy and will continue to so on Tour with My Ugly Clementine & Nils Keppel in 2024.
